New Delhi:

The nation on Monday is celebrating the 148th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Every year, India celebrates October 2 as Gandhi Jayanti to mark the birthday of the 'Father of the Nation', Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated as a national holiday across the nation as a mark of respect and honour for arguably India's greatest freedom fighter, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and his philosophy which serves as a guiding light to millions across India and the world.

Gandhiji played a pivotal role in spearheading India's independence movement. During the pre-Independence era, Gandhi infused millions of Indians with a sense of tolerance and resilience to fight any form of oppression or violence imposed by the mighty British empire. He builds India's entire freedom campaign around two of his much-revered principles 'Satyagraha' and 'Ahimsa'. While Satyagraha meant to appeal to, insistence on, or reliance on the Truth, Ahimsa was centered around imbibing non-violence as a combative tool to thwart any act of force or violence. Gandhiji's contribution to the cause of Indian freedom movement through the Satyagraha, Non Co-operation and Quit India movement to name a few..is unparalleled and he rightfully earned the title, the 'Father of the Nation'. He not only is a towering figure in India's political history but also cemented his place among leading statesmen of the world for his noble philosophy towards humanity in general.

Gandhiji's greatness lay in his simplicity towards life and high intellectual prowess. To sum up his personality in the best possible way, the great American scientist Albert Einstein had this said about the 'Naked Saint' -  'Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.

So on Gandhi Jayanti, let us all instil a bit of those value and wisdom which the 'Mahatma' tried to propagate through his through unmatched philosophy. Here are ten memorable quotes of Gandhiji which give a glimpse of his benevolent and generous attitude towards mankind.
