New Delhi:

Till a few hours back, Priya Prakash Varrier was the cynosure of millions of eyes as her wink made her an overnight internet sensation.

But it all changed on Wednesday afternoon after a person filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Police against Omar Lulu, the director of Malayalam movie Oru Adaar Love claiming that the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from the movie featuring Varrier is hurting the feelings of the Muslim community.

“The Falaknuma police in the old city filed a case against the makers under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) based on a complaint from Mohammed Abdul Muqeeth Khan and some other Muslim youths,” said Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V Satyanarayana.

Muqeeth Khan, who is an engineering student, denied lodging the complaint for the sake of publicity. “We don’t want to take to streets or organise people to protest. In fact, I too was floored by the clipping of the song which went viral. I tried to understand the lyrics and then realised that it has reference to Khadija Bivi, wife of Prophet Mohammad. I felt it objectionable and hence lodged the complaint,” he said.

His cousin Abdul Kauser said they would fight for the protection of the sentiments of the Muslims through legal means, rather than through agitations and violent protests.

Mumbai's Raza Academy has also passed a resolution against the movie 'Oru Adaar Love' saying one of the movie's songs hurts the sentiments of Muslims. The Academy will forward a resolution as a complaint to the Mumbai Police and the Censor Board.

It is alleged that the song that has “objectionable references” to a love story between Prophet Mohammad and his wife Khadijah.

The song has Varrier winking at a co-actor which made her an overnight sensation.
