New Delhi:

As many as 90 people sustained injuries at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in West Bengal’s Midnapore when a portion of marquee collapsed in the middle of his speech.

All the injured were rushed to a hospital for medical treatment on motorcycles and in the ambulance that followed the prime minister’s convoy.

After completing his speech, Modi visited them in the hospital. While meeting the injured in the hospital, the prime minister appeared emotional, according to news agency ANI.

The iron columns used to set-up the large tent to shelter the crowd caved in. Modi stopped his speech in between and urged people to be safe. He then directed his security officers to look after the injured.

"Those who have climbed up, please get down, all of you....please climb down. Those standing up there, please get down. Don't run," Modi appealed to the people.

Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said that her government was giving all the help required for the medical treatment of those injured in the mishap.

“We pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured at the Midnapore rally (a portion of the tent had collapsed during PM's rally) today. The government is giving all help for medical treatment,” West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
