Mumbai: Heavy rains disrupt normal life; NDRF teams on alert after high tide warning

The authorities have put teams of NDRF stationed in Mumbai on alert and two additional teams have been moved from Pune to Mumbai to meet any crisis.

Mumbai: Heavy rains disrupt normal life; NDRF teams on alert after high tide warning

New Delhi :  

Heavy rains lashed the economic capital causing water logging in several low-lying areas of the Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday.

Dadar, Bandra and Andheri East's Sahar areas were waterlogged due to incessant showers since morning leading to traffic snarls. Movement of trains also got affected due to heavy rains. Heavy traffic snarls witnessed in South-Central Mumbai. Traffic signals were not working in Dadar circle area.

The MeT department issued a warning of high tide which is likely to occur at 4.35 pm of 3.32 meters height.

The BMC reported three incidents of wall collapse,16 incidents of short circuit and 23 incidents of trees and branches falling in past 24 hours. The civic authority reported that Mumbai and suburban areas received more than 70 mm rain in past 1 hour and more than 100 mm rain in Mumbai since 8:30 am on Tuesday. At least four people got injured after iron frame fell on VP Road. The injured have been shifted to Saifee Hospital.  

The authorities have put teams of NDRF stationed in Mumbai on alert and two additional teams have been moved from Pune to Mumbai to meet any crisis. All city schools have been closed. 

KS Hosalikar, DDG IMD, Mumbai, informed that warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Maharashtra, especially in the northern Konkan region of the state.
