A brother and sister were arrested from Mumbai on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a service pistol and ammunitions from the house of a Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad constable on July 30.
Police said, the arrested siblings have been identified as Kamaljeeet Singh, 19, and his sister Gurpreet Kaur, 23.
Mumbai Police said that the arrested siblings had allegedly stolen the 9mm pistol, 30 rounds of bullet and 300 grams of jewellery from the residence of the ATS constable Nilesh Mohite in Byculla residence.
The alleged burglary was conducted by the brother and sister while the ATS constable was out of town.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IX, Paramjit Singh told the media, “An investigation was instigated by Mumbai Crime Branch, Byculla Police and ATS after a complaint was filed by the Mohite.”
The police officer added that a raid was carried out by Mumbai Police at the brother-sister’s residence in Vashi in Navi Mumbai.
“Police have recovered the duty pistol of the constable and 27 rounds of bullet,” said Singh.
Police added that the sibling are part of a gang of burglars. Kaur has at least 18 cases of burglary pending against her at various police stations in Mumbai and its suburbs.
