The All-India Hindu Convention that began in Goa on Wednesday resolved that cow should be declared as the national animal, while hitting out at the government for “delaying” the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

In a series of resolutions adopted during the first day of the convention, the right wing organisations also sought to make changes in school textbooks and remove portions of deformed history.

“The central government should constitute a national history committee to remove portions of deformed history from all textbooks,” read the resolution.

“All lacunas and deformations in the history books in all the states should be removed,” it added.

During the convention, the speakers came down heavily on the Narendra Modi government holding it responsible for delay in construction of the Ram Temple. “It is because of the narrow-minded attitude of the present government that Ram Temple has not been constructed and the ban on cow slaughter has not been imposed,” Abhay Vartak of Santan Sanstha, which is part of the organisational team, said addressing the gathering after inauguration of the event.

The convention, which has more than 130 organisations participating in, also resolved that “the ancient Indian science and studies should be included in the textbooks.” It was also resolved that Hindus should be taken as members in the fact-finding committees on riots.

“There should be identical compensation for all injured and relatives of dead persons. The compensation amount should not be more for the sole reason that the victim was from minority,” the resolution added.
