Lucknow:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) taking suo moto cognizance over the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) boiler explosion at Unchahar, which led to killing of at least 30 labourers and injured more than 200, issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday.
The commission has seeked a detailed report on the incident from the Uttar Pradesh government and chief secretary of the state within six months.
The commission expressing concern over the incident has observed that a high level probe into the matter immediately to ascertain and errors if any behind the blast.
The NHRC has also directed the government to look into the incident and ensure to take care of the families of the deceased by suitably compensating them. The ex-gratia amount should be given to family members without any delay and ensure best treatment is provided to the injured persons and proper rehabilitation steps are taken.
On November 1, around 3:30 am a boiler in the NTPC plant blasted leading to 30 casualties and injuring more than 200 people. The number are expected to increase. Total of Rs 20 lakhs so far have been announced for next kin of the deceased. The injured are being treated in hospitals across the state.
