New Delhi:

A civilian was killed and two others were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua on Wednesday as Pakistan continued to violate ceasefire along the international border for the ninth straight day.

As many as 100 villages and at least 40 Border Security Force (BSF) outposts were under the direct attack by the Pakistani forces, which resorted to incessant shelling.

So far, four people have lost their lives while thirty others received serious injuries due to the heavy shelling and firing from across the border, said Shesh Paul Vaid, DGP, Jammu & Kashmir.

“In a night long shelling/firing from across the border at Jammu International Border Kathua to Akhnoor so far four deaths have taken place and thirty injured. Very sad indeed,” Vaid tweeted.

Thirteen civilians injured in Ramgarh sector of Jammu International Border due to the Pakistani firing in Araspura, Arnia, Ramgarh, Samba, Hiranagar sectors, Vaid informed.

The Jammu and Kashmir police was assisting the injured people and all of them were shifted to the hospital.

The BSF was strongly retaliating against the unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan. The BSF has lost two of its jawans in the latest round of unprovoked firing along the IB in Jammu region since May 15.

Anti-Pak protest in Jammu over ceasefire violation

Meanwhile, the Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) held an anti-Pakistan protest in Jammu against the firing and shelling by the neighboring country.

Led by its chairman Sunil Dimple, over 200 members of the organisation took out a protest march which began from the Janipur high court road.

They burnt effigies and flags of Pakistan on the high court road against the ceasefire violations along the International Border and the Line of Control. The protesters also burnt effigies of the BJP-PDP state government and demanded handing over J&K to the army and imposing governor’s rule.
