Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: TMC likely to privilege motion over detention of its MPs in Assam

New Delhi:

The Monsoon Session of Parliament, day 12, is likely to witness ruckus on Friday after the detention of eight Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader at Silchar Airport in Assam. The eight-member TMC delegation, comprising six MPs, one MLA and one minister from West Bengal had gone to Assam to assess the situation in the state following the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft.

The TMC is likely to move a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against the “undemocratic” detention of its MPs in Assam.

Apart from it, several bills, including the National Medical Commission Bill, The Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill, and The National Sports University Bill are also listed for discussion in the Lok Sabha today (Friday).

In Rajya Sabha, Chairman Venkaiah Naidu may face protest from the Congress MPs from Assam. The Congress parliamentarians alleged that Naidu was not letting them speak in the House. The Congress MPs were also reportedly planning to vote against the Chairman. If this happens, it will be the first time that members of the upper house will vote against the Chairman.
