A standing ovation by the BJP's parliamentarians to Prime Minister Narendra Modi made him emotional during the party's Parliamentary board meeting on Wednesday in Delhi post the election victories secured by them in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
PM Modi highlighted the significance of the Gujarat and Himachal polls victory to his fellow party members by saying that BJP had added another two states to its already impressive tally of 17 states where they currently hold power.
"This is a big victory, we are now ruling 19 states. Even Indira Gandhi, when she was in power, was in 18 states," PM Modi reportedly told BJP MPs, sharing the journey of the party from two seats in 1984 to now. However, the prime minister warned his colleagues against complacency.
PM added that the party's booth level workers, with the support of people, must tread towards victory & should not be distracted by what opposition is saying about credibility & the low-level comments they are making.
The BJP retained its saffron bastion Gujarat for the sixth time a row and clinched Himachal Pradesh from the Congress, expanding its political footprints to 19, including the five it rules with allies.
