Police stop anti-liquor activists to march towards Minister's home

Yavatmal:

Police on Friday foiled the bid of anti-liquor activists to march towards residence of district Guardian Minister Madan Yerawar, and also arrested eight persons.

The incident occurred in afternoon, when a group of activists owing allegiance to ‘Swamini Daru Bandi Andolan Samiti’ marched towards the local residence of Yerawar in Dutt Chowk, with liquor bottles in their hands, district superintendent of police Megnathan Rajkumar said.

The activists alleged that Yerawar played a role in the state government’s move to denotify the national and state hihghways passing through the city to save liquor lobby.

According to the police, the activists wanted to garland the minister with liquor bottles as part of the protest.

However, the police stopped them before they could enter the minister’s residence.

It is not known whether Yerawar present at his residence.

They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Maharashtra Police Act.
