Power theft in UP: 5 years in jail for first offence, 7-year jail term if caught second time

New Delhi:

The Uttar Pradesh government is going to launch a campaign against power theft after June 15 in the state. The government has provisioned stern punishment against the offenders.

Uttar Pradesh power minister Srikant Sharma informed on social media, saying that a massive campaign will be launched after June 15, and if a person found involved in power theft for the first time, he would be jailed for five years while a second-time offender would be sent to jail for seven years.

Last month , Sharma had said about the same during the inauguration of a 220 KV sub- station in Chhatta.

"A person involved in theft of electricity for the first time can be imprisoned for up to five years, while a second time offender can be sentenced for up to seven years," he said.
