At Congress' Madhya Pradesh 'Sankalp Yatra', Rahul Gandhi's tea break and selfie

New Delhi:

To kickstart his political campaign for the upcoming assembly elections later this year, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday arrived in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. The Congress will try to ramp up their base in the central state of India known to be a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) brigade.

Meanwhile, ahead of Gandhi's visit to Bhopal, posters and cut-outs of the Congress president have been put up across Bhopal, describing him as a devotee of Lord Shiva. On a related note, the 48-year-old has just returned from a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar.

"Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh for a roadshow and will be meeting party workers," the Congress wrote on its official Twitter handle.

The road-show, which is being touted as the 'Sankalp Yatra' of Congress has started from Lal Ghati circle around 1:30 pm. Lakhs of Congress workers from across India will march towards BHEL Dussehra Ground during the show. Rahul Gandhi will address a sea of humanity from the Dussehra Ground at about 4 pm Monday.

Will attend a gathering at Bhel Dussehra Ground at 4 pm today,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted. “Excited and waiting eagerly to meet the people of Bhopal,” the Gandhi scion added.

Besides, Gandhi is expected to arrive in Bhopal by aircraft by Monday noon. He will then embark on a 15-kilometre-long roadshow from Lalghati Chowk, located close to the airport, after seeking the blessings of more than 11 Hindu priests, state party spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi told PTI on Sunday.

Gandhi's roadshow, in which he will ride an open vehicle, will conclude at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's Dussehra Maidan, where he will interact with party cadres, he added.

Keeping in mind the security arrangements, Bhopal Inspector General (IG) of Police Jaideep Prasad has deployed large number of police personnel across Bhopal. "We have got an extra force of 1,500 policemen who have already been deputed," Prasad added.
