New Delhi:

The ongoing Samajwadi Party tussle is heading for a showdown between the warring factions of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh's most famous Yadav clan over party's control and its symbol.

The Election Commission, which has reserved its order on the matter, is likely to announce its decision on Monday.

The decision could result in a split between the Mulayam Singh Yadav faction and Akhilesh faction which are at loggerheads to get the reins of the ruling party.

Here are the possible scenarios:

EC freezes symbol

There is a fair chance that the Election Commission decides to freeze the symbol considering the fast-approaching election dates. In this case, the EC could give separate symbols to both the factions. This will split the Samajwadi Party and both faction will go separate ways to fight the polls.

If Akhilesh faction gets symbol

The Akhilesh faction of the ruling party has been flexing its muscles ever since the feud came to the fore in SP.

After Akhilesh unseated Mulayam as party chief, he also approached EC to showcase the massive support he enjoys within the party folds.

If Akhilesh faction gets the symbol, it will be a major victory for the young leader who has been seen advocating big policy changes within the party.

If Mulayam gets to ride 'cycle'

The third scenario is the least likely one. It is highly unlikely that party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav gets hold on the SP symbol.

Just four days ago, after a hearing before the Election Commission, Mulayam had agreed to act as a 'Margdarshak' of the Samajwadi Party signaling a truce-like situation with his son. But when some reporters asked him as to who should get the symbol, he had said 'us'.

It also means that Mulayam is not ready to make such sacrifices when it comes to the party symbol.
