New Delhi:
Maharashtra Congress leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday said that Congress party is likely to field a dummy candidate against Rahul Gandhi in party president’s election to showcase it as a democratic practice within party.
The party leaders cannot befool people, Poonawalla said.
While talking to media, Poonawalla said, his sources have told him that party loyalists were mulling to field a dummy candidate to give it as a shape of election.
Earlier, the Congress had downplayed the statements of Shehzad Poonawalla on organisational polls, saying it did not want to dignify his "absolutely silly comments".
"I don't think I am required to dignify such comments with a response. It actually adds weight to the maker of such absolutely silly comments," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said when asked to comment on Poonawalla's remarks.
Mere sources mujhe bata rahe hain ki darbariyon mein baat chal rahi hai ki ek dummy candidate utara jaye taake ye election lage, lekin ab logon ki aankhon mein dhool nahi jhonk sakte: #ShehzadPoonawalla on #RahulGandhi 's nomination pic.twitter.com/9wpJB1t4IN
