A 24-year-old soldier G. Manivannan was killed in a militant attack on an Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has condoled the death and announced a sum of Rs 20 lakh to his family.

Manivannan, the resident of Tiruvannamalai district joined the India Army in 2013. His younger brother G Anand said, “It was his aim from a young age to join the Army and serve the country. When in college, he used to wake up at 4 am and run to be fit. He had several friends in the village.”

Manivannan and Naik Dipak Kumar Maity were killed in a militant attack on Army convoy near Qazigund in Srinagar-Jammu National highway.
