As the Met department forecasted heavy rains in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government announced that the school will be closed in Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur.
Chennai also witnessed isolated rains on Sunday evening.
Due to "speedy work of ministers", there was no more waterlogging in Chennai, said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy. He also stated that the fund which had been released by former chief minister Jayalalithaa has been finished.
The Palaniswamy government asked the Central government for a relief fund.
"When PM Modi came to Chennai he discussed the issue of rain waterlogging, so we asked for relief fund from the Central Government and have sent a proposal on the same,” Palaniswami said, adding that monsoon is expected to last till December end.
Heavy rains had lashed several parts of Chennai earlier this month, leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas.
Since October, Tamil Nadu has received 25cm, against the normal of 26cm. Chennai, however, has recorded excess rainfall, receiving 68cm against the normal of 41cm.
