New Delhi:
About 4,000 protesters gathered at Chennai’s Marina Beach on Wednesday to protest the removal of ban on bill-taming sport Jallikattu.
Demanding to lift the ban on Jallikattu, the protesters also sought a ban on animal rights body People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Unabated protests continued at several places in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The agitated protesters even defied the Supreme Court’s ban on the sport.
The protesters stick to common demand that both Centre and State governments work out a formula to enable holding of Jallikattu within this month.
Students of various educational institutions including professional colleges in Puducherry abstained from classes protesting the ban on the bull taming sport.
Holding placards and banners in support of Jallikattu, students formed a human chain and raised slogans condemning the ban. They also insisted that the ban should be lifted without any delay.
Police were deployed in strength to ensure that there was no disruption of traffic at the venue of agitation.

DMK working president MK Stalin joined the protests from day one, he also exchanged barbs with PETA over the issue of Jallikattu.
The apex court had banned Jallikattu on grounds of animal cruelty in 2014. In November last year, SC dismissed the state government’s plea for a review of its judgment. Regarding the same AIADMK chief Sasikala had written a letter to PM Modi to promulgate ordinance for Jallikattu.
