New Delhi:

Ahead of facing a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the day is important in the Parliamentary democracy of India and expressed his confidence in the Members of Parliament saying that he is sure they will rise to the occasion.

“Today is an important day in our Parliamentary democracy. I'm sure my fellow MP colleagues will rise to the occasion & ensure constructive, comprehensive&disruption free debate. We owe this to the people & the makers of our Constitution. India will be watching us closely,” tweeted PM Modi.

In one of the biggest challenges in four years, the central government will have to prove its superiority in Lok Sabha. The no-confidence motion was moved by the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) on Wednesday.

In a reduced house size of 532, the BJP has 273 Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha (excluding Sumitra Mahajan), which already is already above the magical mark of 267.

Janata Dal-United (JD-U), The Shiromani Akali Dal, Lok Janshakti Pary and Apna Dal are among those who have already decided to back the Narendra Modi-led government in defeating the Opposition’s motion.
