New Delhi:

Clashes between police and villagers following a protest demonstration at Bhangar in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district left at least two people dead and many wounded on Tuesday.

The clashes took place during a protest demonstration against the acquisition of land for a power project in the village.

According to sources, the protests took a violent turn when the villagers pelted stones and torched about 10 police vehicles. Sources said that two people died of bullet injuries.

Sources said that the administration has deployed Rapid Action Force team to maintain law and order.
