New Delhi:

Taking different stand from his party leader Sangeet Som, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that it does not matter who built Taj Mahal, it was built by blood and sweat of Indian labourers.

“It does not matter who built it and for what reason; it was built by blood and sweat of Indian labourers. It is very important for us, especially from tourism perspective it is our priority to provide facilities and safety to tourists there,” said Adityanath.

Adityanath to be in Agra on 25th October, will visit Taj Mahal and other monuments in the city.

Earlier on Sunday, placing the Taj Mahal in the crosschairs of another controversy, BJP MLA Sangeet Som questioned the 17th century architectural marvel’s place in India’s heritage and said history would be rewritten to erase Mughal emperors from it.

Adityanath was under attack recently when the UP government knocked off Taj Mahal from its latest tourism booklet.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has also said in the past that Taj Mahal did not represent Indian culture but the Ramayana and Bhagwad Gita did.
