Youth votebank to dominate Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls

New Delhi:

Uttar Pradesh will witness 24.25 lakh new voters in the upcoming 2017 assembly elections. About 3.8 crore first-time voters are aged in between 20-29 years. This demography hints that youth votebank will decide the fate of Uttar Pradesh in Assembly Polls. 

Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven phases starting February 11 with the final round of polling on March 8. The upcoming elections will decide who will rule UP but it will also be a precursor to the 2019 general elections

In the 2012 Polls, one-third of the voters in Uttar Pradesh were less than 39 years old, and unexpectedly the youth voted Samajwadi Party under young Akhilesh to a landslide victory.

In Akhilesh Yadav, SP have a young face for the Chief Minister post, who has emerged as the youth icon. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls also, Uttar Pradesh had among the highest number of first-time voters with nearly 2.5 crore young becoming eligible to exercise their franchise.
