You may try number of makeup techniques to hide your puffy eyes or dark circles but not having a proper sleep can make you look less attractive to people, according to new study published on Thursday May 18. The study also found that it makes people less keen to hang out with you.
A joint study from New York University and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden found that limited sleep for two consecutive nights could be enough to make someone appear less attractive to others. It can also make people take less interest to hang out with you.
Telling someone that they look tired could say more about our perception of that person than we might think, the study concludes.
25 Swedish students were studied upon which included 14 women, 11 men- aged 18 to 47 years old, who had their pictures clicked after two consecutive nights of poor quality sleep, just 4.25 hours and also after when they had a proper sleep of about 7.5 hours. In all the pictures, subjects didn’t wear any makeup. They wore a gray t-shirt and had their hair pulled away from their faces.
122 volunteers (65 women, 57 men) aged between 18 to 65 were then asked how much they would like to socialize with the person in the photo. They were also asked to rate the subjects on attractiveness, health, sleepiness and trustworthiness.
According to the results, the raters were less interested in socializing with subjects who looked tired. They also thought the tired subjects to be less attractive, less healthy and more sleepy compared to when they had enough sleep.
