New Delhi:

Reducing the intake of salt can help by decreasing the frequency of night-time loo trips, condition known as nocturia, according to a new study.

In a study conducted by Nagasaki University of Japan, 223 volunteers were asked to cut their intake of salt by 25%, from 10. grams to 8 grams per day, and by this their average night time toilet trips fell from an average of 2.3 trips to 1.4 times.

While 98 volunteers who were asked to increase their salt intake from 9.9 to 11 gm per day were found to urinate more in night, intensity increasing from 2.3 times to 2.7 times every night.

Well the reason behind this reduction lies in the fact that salt can only be disposed from the body when it is dissolved, so when its intake is in excess, the more urine needs to be expelled in order to get rid of it, according to researchers.
