The first week of August is celebrated as the World Breastfeeding Week across country. World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action pronounced the first-very World Breastfeeding Week in 1992. Since then, the campaign has veraciously spread awareness about breastfeeding. The social campaign runs to encourage breastfeeding to the babies and improve the health of babies around the globe.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeed for the first six months to nourish the health of babies.

Here are the ten benefit facts of breastfeeding:

  1. Breastfeed babies are likely reducing the risk of suffering from pneumonia, bronchiolitis, cold and other viral flu due to presence of immunoglobulins and antibodies.
  2. Breastfeeding babies are likely lower the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  3. Breastfeed babies have lower risk of obesity and forming type 2 diabetes.
  4. Breastfeed babies have better antibody response to vaccines than formula-fed babies.
  5. Babies who are breastfeed exclusively for the first six months have lesser ear infections (otitis media) and gastroenteritis.
  6. Breastfeed babies are protected against from respiratory infections including those caused by rotaviruses.
  7. Rich nutrient breast milk help strengthen and develop better immune system of the babies.
  8. Nutrients in breast milk decrease the risk of tooth decay. Breastfeed help babies to optimize oral development due to their jaw movements.
  9. Breastfeeding help to optimize brain development of the babies.
  10. Breastfeed babies are less sick and lower risk of allergies.
