Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink… soon this danger may hit the world population if the significant World Water Day is celebrated as a symbolic day and the awareness campaign last only for a day.

Well, the world needs to save water but is the available water safe to drink?

Often, the world takes water for granted as it is everywhere. And the talk to save water is reserved for formal speeches in special platforms. Of course, it’s easier to preach than to practice. And the need to ensure quality water is rarely raised.

As the national leaders call on the people to conserve water, the danger of grave water crisis poses a challenge to the government. The alarming news for India is, according to statistics given by a water resource group, 40 per cent of the population may not have water to drink by 2030, if the water crisis is not addressed.

The fact is the level of potable water and ground water is depleting. Several non-governmental bodies may be doing their bit to create awareness and help resolve the issue. But the crisis is grave. The government machinery has to step up its water management on water conservation and drinking water problem.

The several campaigns for water conservation should go beyond the symbolic speeches and demonstrations. The need of the hour is to practice it oneself and drill into the minds of the people the need to save water. However, the task remains challenging as changing people’s mindset is difficult.

As the struggle to save water continues the world over, a pertinent question arises—how safe is potable water in India. While drinking a good amount of water is needed to stay healthy and beautiful, drinking unsafe water many be detrimental to one’s health and beauty. Hence, drinking water the right way is important.

Here’s a few tips on drinking water that can provide several health and beauty benefits.

1. Drink boiled or bottled water by reputed company to ensure the quality of water you are drinking and to avoid falling sick from drinking contaminated water. However, beware of re-bottling of water. Check the bottle caps and the seal to see whether the water has been rebottled.

2. Drink hot water first thing in the morning on empty stomach to flush out all unwanted toxins. Sip hot water as you eat your daily meals. Drinking hot water also helps to burn unwanted fats in the body and leads to weight control or weight loss.

3. Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated and fresh. Experts advice: Drink eight to 10 glasses of water in a day.

4. Carry bottled water every time you step out, especially under the sun. Save yourself from dehydration and heat stroke by drinking water regularly throughout the day.

5. Always drink a glass of warm water before your night sleep to keep your body well hydrated while you sleep and to avoid any heart burns or stroke.

World Water Day is observed on March 22 every year to create awareness about water conservation and to highlight the importance of freshwater.
