Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej is considered to be as auspicious as any other major Hindu festival in India. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third tithi (lunar day) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaisakha. This year, Akshaya Tritiya begins on April 18 at 10.29am and will end on April 19 at 6.55 am.
According to Hindu mythology, akshaya tritiya is believed to bring good luck and success. Most people purchase Gold on this day as it is believed that buying Gold on Akshaya Tritiya brings prosperity and more wealth in coming future. Being Akshaya day it is believed that Gold, bought on this day, will never diminish and would continue to grow or appreciate.
This day is ruled by God Vishnu who is the preserver God in the Hindu Trinity. Akshaya Tritiya and Parashurama Jayanti, birthday anniversary of 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, falls on the same day but depending on staring time of Tritiya Tithi Parashurama Jayanti might fall one day before Akshaya Tritiya day.
As per Hindu Electional Astrology three lunar days, Yugadi, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijay Dashami don't need any Muhurta to start or perform any auspicious work as these three days are free from all malefic effects.
A number of legends are associated with this auspicious day:
1) Lord Kubera (the treasurer of wealth)received his lost fortune back.
2) Sudama was blessed with an abundance of wealth by Lord Krishna.
3) Maa Annapurna was born on this day.
