Good Friday is one of the holy days for Christians. The day commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross and his death at Calvary.

Accounts of the Gospel state that Jesus was put to death after he was betrayed by Judas and was later sentenced to death.

The holy day falls on the Friday before the Easter Sunday. As per the Christian culture, it is believed that Christ was put on the cross for crucifixion on Friday and her rose again three days later.

It is often questioned that how a day of mourning be termed as 'good'? But the experts state that it is because 'good' stands for pious or holy. 

While Christians across the world mourn the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, their custom and traditions for the holy day may vary.

However, the main objective is to mourn the suffering of Jesus by fasting and prayers. Churches across the world hold processions and educate the masses about the teachings of Jesus Christ and his death.

# As the day marks the mourning of Jesus Christ's death, it is prohibited to dance on this day in Germany failing which might invite some serious troubles for the offenders.

Apart from mourning, flying a kite is also a custom of Good Friday. In Bermuda, kites are flown on the holy day as the kite symbolises the cross that Jesus died on and his ascension into heaven.

Devotees in the Philippines lash themselves with metal chains and even get nailed to crosses in order to experience the suffering of Jesus Christ.
