Lipstick Under My Burkha: Filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava's recent release 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' has been the talk of the town for being touted as 'too female oriented'. The black comedy has made some brilliant efforts to present how these women feel in the men’s world and is winning a lot of appreciation from the critics. Lipstick Under My Burkha stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Rachna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumara and Plabita Borthakur in key roles.
Pink: Helmed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, 'Pink' is a courtroom drama where a women have to fight a battle of their dignity. It also highlights the perception of Indian patriarchal society towards women who want to live life on their own terms and refuse to get suppressed by the societal norms. Starring Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles, 'Pink' won a lot of critical appreaciation.
English Vinglish: A family drama by Gauri Shinde, English Vinglish revolves around a middle-class woman who is in a struggle to get her respect from her family who are often mocking her over English skills. Sridevi, who plays the lead protagonist, was appreciated for her performance in the movie. English Vinglish was premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, where both the film and Sridevi's performance received positive response.
Parched: A Leena Yadav directorial, Parched is the story of four village women who dare to fight with the social evils prevailing in our society patriarchy, child marriage, dowry, marital rapes and physical and mental abuse. Starring Tannishtha Chatterjee, Radhika Apte and Surveen Chawla in pivotal roles, 'Parched' was critically acclaimed. It was also premiered at the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival
Angry Indian Goddesses: Helmed by Pan Nalin, Angry Indian Goddesses is decribed as 'India's first buddy female pic'. The movie highlights and showcases numerous issues faced by residents of the country such as gender inequality, women as objectified sex objects, gay-straight friendships, big business vs. tribal rights, rape problem, caste differences, skin-color prejudice and lax justice. Starring Sandhya Mridul, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Sarah-Jane Dias and Anushka Manchanda in key roles, 'Angry Indian Goddesses' was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, where it finished second for the People's Choice Award
