On October 2nd, India celebrates the birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, who was born in the year 1869. He led India’s struggle towards Independence from the British rule. People across the world has been inspired with his believe in non-violence and peace. Bollywood is no exception to this, even many films have been produced which is based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi in the past.

Lage Raho Munna Bhai – Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the comedy drama flick featured Sanjay Dutt in the lead who can see the spirit of Gandhiji and follow the practice of Gandhigiri to help general public. The movie also starred Vidya Balan and was released in the year 2006.
Gandhi – Released in the year 1982, the film describes the life and time of Mahatma Gandhi who freed India from British rule using peaceful methods. The film went on to win 8 Oscars Awards and 26 other Film Awards including BAFTA, Grammy, Golden Globe and Golden Guild Awards.
Gandhi My Father – Released in the year 2007, the film featured Akshaye Khanna and Dharshan Jariwala in lead roles. The movie explores the troubled relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi.
Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara – Directed by Jahnu Barua and produced by Anupam Kher, the flick was released in the year 2005. The movie also features Urmila Matondkar, Rajit Kapur and Parvin Dabas in key roles. The movie went on to become a commercial success at the box-office.
The Making of Gandhi – Released in the year 1996, the movie stars Rajit Kapur who portrayed the transformation of Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi to Mahatma. The flick also featured Pallavi Joshi in key role. The movie also won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English.
