Blood Moon awes sky watchers

A rare lunar eclipse turned the moon a dark blood red and illuminated the skies.

THE most incredible phenomenon that humans can behold took place on Wednesday.

It is the second eclipse of its kind to occur this year.

During the eclipse light beams onto the Earth's shadow which turns the moon into a dark red or orange.

The Blood Moon was visible in America, East Asia and Australia.

Space agency NASA hosted webcasts of the Blood Moon event as it happened.

Some people were lucky enough to get a glimpse of the incredible lunar sight.

Next year there will be two more full lunar eclipses which will complete the FOUR blood moons.
