Just before formally launching India's centralised tax model, President Mukhejee addressed a special fuction in the Parliament organised to launch GST.
During the address, the President said that the introduction of GST is a momentous event for the nation. It was also a moment of some satisfaction for him because, as the Finance Minister, he had introduced the Constitution Amendment Bill on 22nd March 2011.
FM Jaitley also addressed the midnight launch event of the GST in the Central Hall of Parliament and said that rollout of the GST will ease inflation, make tax avoidance difficult and boost GDP growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the historic tax as 'Good and Simple Tax'.
Apart from them, other ministers, top leaders, celebrities and industrialists also marked the launch of this new tax regime.
