MS Dhoni shall be playing his 300th one-day international when takes to the field against Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI on Thursday. While the result of the match will be inconsequential to the result of the series, the former India skipper will look to make the dead game a special one to cherish the milestone game in his glittering career.
In 299 ODIs, the wicket keeper batsman has amassed 9608 runs with 65 fifties and 10 hundreds and was the captain of India's 2015 World Cup winning squad. Dhoni is the only captain in International cricket to have all three major ICC trophies in his kitty.
'Mahi' has been on a record breaking spree of late and can add two more records to his name in his 300th ODI.
MS Dhoni became the fourth highest run-getter for India in ODIs during the course of his innings against Sri Lanka in the third ODI. Dhoni now has 9608 runs from 296 games. Only Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Sourav Ganguly (11,221) and Rahul Dravid (10,768) are now ahead of him as India's top ODI run getters.
Dhoni, who equalled Kumar Sangakkara's record of 99 stumpings in ODIs in the second match at Pallekele, can become the first wicket-keeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODIs. He had leveled Sangakkara's record when he stumped Dhanuska Gunathilaka off Yuzvender Chahal. While Sangakkara achieved 99 stumpings in 360 matches, Dhoni has taken 106 matches less to achieve the same feat.
Dhoni is also on the verge of breaking another unique record in his 300th ODI. With 72 unbeaten ODI innings, Dhoni is currently tied with former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and Proteas all rounder Shaun Pollock's record of most unbeaten innings in ODIs. In his 300th ODI, he can surpass both of them for the most number of unbeaten innings.
