In a path-breaking discovery, a team of international scientists have identified an extinct gigantic worm with deadly snapping jaws. Researchers studied an ancient fossil stored at the Royal Ontario museum, Toronto, Canada since the mid-1990s and discovered the remains of a giant extinct bristle worm.
The new species is being considered to be unique among fossil worms and also used to possess the largest jaws ever recorded in this type of creature, reaching more than one centimeter in length. A comparison with living species suggests that this massive worm achieved a body length in excess of a meter and could be compared to ‘giant eunicid’ species.
