Renowned Indian scientist PM Bharagva passes away at age of 89

Prominent Indian scientist Pushpa Mitra Bhargava, who founded the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology passed away on Tuesday, at the age of 89 in Hyderabad. He was suffering from various health issues and breathed his last around 6pm in his residence.

Bhargava, who was born on February 22, 1928 is survived by a son and a daughter. He obtained his Ph.D in synthetic organic chemistry at the age of 21 from Lucknow University.  

CCMB's staff expressed their grief at the demise of the eminent scientist. CCMB released a statement which said that Bhargava's vision and efforts played an instrumental role in setting up CCMB as an institution for basic biology.

Bhargava was awarded with more than 100 international and national awards, which also includes Padma Bhushan in the year 1986 and the Legion d'Honneur from then President of France in 1986.

The Ajmer born scientist was also the vice-chairman of National Knowldge Commision which was established in the year 2005.
