Solar eclipse 2017 which is happened to be one of the most awaited incidents of the year will be held on August 21, 2017. The solar eclipse will be witnessed at the morning of August 21. However, India will not be fortunate enough to experience such a beautiful incident. A total solar eclipse will be seen all over the United States, while other countries will witness the partial form of the same. The rare phenomenon occurred lat time across the United States on June 8, 1918 eclipse.
How people can witness solar eclipse: The total solar eclipse can be experienced from coast-to-coast and the path of the eclipse stretches from Oregon to South Carolina and thousands of Americans are at present on cloud nine as they are all set to experience the beautiful phenomenon with proper eyewear. Observing solar eclipse without proper protection is considered to be harmful for eye sights. There are some ways through which people can observe the solar eclipse like a pinhole camera or a welder's glasses. However there are quite a few local events which you can frequent.
Latest updates: The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Victoria Centre will be up on the Mount Tolmie from 8.30 am to 11.30 am. The University of Victoria will also be updating its site about its planned event. From 9 am to 12 pm Science World, Vancouver will hold its event with the total solar eclipse coverage from the US in the Science Theatre from 10 am to 5 pm. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Edmonton Centre's Observatory at TELUS World of Science will be in attendance. TELUS Spark is all set to throw an eclipse party from 10 am to 1 pm and you can make your own eclipse viewer. From 10 am to 2 pm you will be able to have a look at the solar eclipse through telescopes with solar filters and not to miss mentioning the barbecue that will be available from 11 am to 1 pm for a price in Calgary.
Viewing the eclipse: The Calgary University will also have a solar eclipse viewing at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory from 10 am t 12.30 pm. The total solar eclipse begins at 10.30 am with 75% of the sun covered by moon at 11.46 am. Astronomers will be congregated at the Saskatchewan Science Centre outside the Kramer IMAX Theatre in Regina. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in Saskatoon will set up telescopes to see the solar eclipse at London Drugs at Preston Avenue and 8 St. E. 70% of the sun covered by moon can be seen from the Manitoba Museum from 11 am to 2 pm in Winnipeg.
Partial eclipse can be seen from solar telescopes About 70% of the sun will be blocked out at Toronto. The Ontario Science Centre has an all day itinerary. York University is holding an event from 1 pm to 4 pm at Lions Stadium. The Toronto University is holding an eclipse party at Princess Margaret Stadium at the CNE from 10 am to 5 pm. And will also be giving out free eclipse glasses. There is no entry fee but the attendees will need to pay admission to CNE grounds. Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa will be holding an event where an astrophysicist will share discourse about the sun. McGill University in Montreal will give free eclipse glasses and live stream the solar eclipse. The event runs from 1 pm to 4 pm. A viewing party at Espace pour la vie is organized at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium in Montreal. The Saint John Astronomy Club has two venues for the viewing of the solar eclipse Irving nature Park and the Rockwood Park Bark Park. The solar eclipse path of totality will begin at Lincoln City, Oregon into Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and, finally, South Carolina. The eclipse will last longest near Carbondale, Illinois in US for minutes and 44 seconds. The Corballis campus of Oregon State University will host the OSU150 Space Grant Festival: A Total Eclipse Experience. It is a weekend long celebration, a watch party will also be hosted on the campus. At Madras, Oregon a four-day Solarfest will be organized at two locations. Symbiosis Gathering will be hosting a global eclipse gathering and the Orgeon Museum of Science and Industry will host an event at the Orgeon State Fairgrounds. Brigham Young University, Idaho is slated to offer series of eclipse related educational events.
Special events Nashville, Tennessee is the largest city in the path of totality and is offering many special events such as Music City Eclipse Science & Technology Festival at the Adventure Science Center. The Italian Lights Festival is hosting the largest Eclipse Viewing Party in Nashville which is a free NASA-Certified Eclipse Event held at the Bicentennial Mall and will have two astrophysicists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Bryson City in North Carolina is offering planetarium shows and rides on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) in Rosman, North Carolina will be hosting a viewing event. Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke will appear at the four days educational event being held at South Carolina State Museum, in Columbia, South Carolina. Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina will include streaming coverage from NASA and educational activities. The next solar eclipse would occur on April 28 2024.
