Manu Bhaker, the 16-year-old 'super teenager' has become an inspiration for Haryana brats to pick up the gun. The 11th standard student, who won her second successive gold medal at the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, has made India proud yet another time.

Manu comfortably won a gold medal in women's 10-meter air pistol at the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast on Sunday.

She shot 240.9 to break the Commonwealth Games record, finishing well ahead of her senior teammate Heena Sidhu.

The young sensation had earlier bagged gold medals at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico and the Junior World Cup in Sydney. Bhaker won the gold medal in the Women's 10-meter air pistol, defeating Mexico's Alejandra Zavala, a two-time champion. Manu is the youngest Indian athlete and world’s third youngest shooter to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup.

Bhaker's self-command and calmness at such international multi-sport events have always belied her age.

The Indian sport shooter first tasted her success at the international level after she clinched the silver medal at the 2017 Asian Junior Championships.

In the 2017 National games held in Kerala, Bhaker won nine gold medals and defeated multiple World Cup medalist including Heena Sidhu.

Born in Goria village near the Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana, Manu also excelled in other sports like Huyen langlon, a Manipuri martial art, as well as boxing, tennis and skating. She won medals at the national games in these events.
