New Delhi :

The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup is the most coveted trophy for which the top international women's cricketing nations battle for every four years. The tournament is held under the aegis of the International Cricket Council.

Until 2005, when the two organisations merged, the premier tournament was administered by a separate body, the International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC). The first World Cup was held in England in 1973, two years before the inaugural men's tournament. In the nascent years, the event was marked by funding difficulties, which meant several teams declined invitations to participate and caused gaps of up to six years between tournaments. However, since 2005 World Cups have been hosted at regular four-year intervals.

The 2017 edition of the World Cup shall be held in England from 24 June to 23 July 2017. It will be the eleventh edition of the Women's World Cup and the third to be held in England (after the 1973 and 1993 tournaments).
