Acting Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president CK Khanna on Wednesday reacting to Anil Kumble’s resignation said Kumble played a major role in India becoming world’s number one test team.
“He had a major part in India becoming No.1 in tests, hope he continues association with us in other roles,” said acting BCCI president CK Khanna.
"I was informed for the first time yesterday (Monday) by the BCCI that the Captain had reservations with my 'style' and about my continuing as the Head Coach. I was surprised since I had always respected the role boundaries between Captain and Coach," Kumble said.
Kumble said the BCCI had, several times, attempted to resolve the misunderstandings between him and the Captain.
"But it was apparent that the partnership was untenable, and I, therefore, believe it is best for me to move on," he said.
"In light of these 'reservations', I believe it is best I hand over this responsibility to whomever the CAC and BCCI deem fit," he added.
The Indian cricket board had already sought new applications for the post of team India head coach.
Former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag had applied for the job. Apart from Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput are also in the fray for the top job.
