India registered a comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the five match series. The highlight of the match was Dhawan's quickfire century. But MS Dhoni also impacted the game and this time with a stunning stumping of Lasith Malinga off Chahal's wide delivery.
Fielding first, the ‘Men in Blue’ bowled out the hosts for 216 runs in 43.2 overs. The target was easily chased down by Indian side with as many as 127 balls to spare.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan hit a fluent unbeaten century, cruising to an easy win over the struggling hosts. India carried its domination from the Test series into the One-day format and achieved its biggest-ever win in terms of overs left while chasing a 200-plus total.
Ahead of the Sri Lanka series, chairman of selectors MSK Prasad had said that Dhoni's future was being discussed at selection meetings but they will look at alternatives only if the former India captain failed to perform.
Asked about Dhoni's future, the Prasad said that it's difficult to predict but till he is delivering for the team, it shouldn't be a problem.
