New Delhi:

In the upcoming Twenty20 tri-series in Sri Lanka, BCCI has given rest to players including Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli who smashed 871 runs in the complete South Africa tour(3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20s) took a break in the last Twenty20 International due to stiff back. He became the skipper to score the most runs on abroad tour surpassing Rahul Dravid who scored 645 runs from his bat on West Indies tour in 2006.

However, Graeme Smith is the highest run scorer skipper with 937 runs against England in 2003.

In the last T20 against South Africa, Rohit Sharma led team India along with Shikhar Dhawan.

The Indian players who are rested from the upcoming series will be seen in IPL and then in Ireland and England tour subsequently.

This is not the first-time team India play a series without MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. It was ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe in the year 2015 when Ajinkya Rahane led the team whitewashed the host in ODI series with 3-0 on their own soil.

However, in the 2 match-T20 series, both the teams managed to win one match each and levelled the series.

The last time when neither Dhoni nor Kohli were in the team was in the final Test of the 4-match series against Australia in the year 2017.

It will be interesting to see whether Rohit Sharma recreates the same magic by leading team in the T20 series, the same way when the team whitewashed Sri Lankan side in the Twenty20 International  series in December 2017.
