New Delhi :

The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Council (CAC) on Tuesday said that they are still deliberating on appointment of new coach of Indian cricket team. Clarifying on reports of selection of Ravi Shastri as next coach, the CAC said that formal announcement could be made later.

Amid media reports that that Shastri has been named coach till the 2019 World Cup, BCCI Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary stated, “No decision has been made on appointment of new coach. The CAC is still deliberating over it.”

“There is no truth in what has been running,” he added.

After interviewing five candidates for the job, which fell vacant after Anil Kumble’s acrimonious exit, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had decided to keep the decision on hold on Monday.

As team director from 2014 to 2016, Shastri had a good run as India won an ODI series against England, reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup and 2016 World T20, won a T20I series in Australia and clinched the Asia Cup.

The CAC members comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman conducted interviews for six of the short listed candidates for the coveted post.

Former head coach Anil Kumble stepped down as coach of Indian cricket team on June 20. The announcement emerged just one day after it was reported that skipper Virat Kohli was displeased with Kumble and had conveyed “strong reservations” over the iconic leg-spinner continuing as the coach to the CAC appointed by the BCCI.
