Virat Kohli surpasses Salman Khan to become 2nd most followed Indian celebrity on Facebook, PM Modi retains top spot

Indian skipper and iconic batsman of the current era, Virat Kohli has led the team to the No.1 position in Tests apart from reaching the finals of the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy. Kohli's popularity has grown by leaps and bounds and he has now become the second most followed Indian celebrity with more than 35 million followers on Facebook. 

The flamboyant 28-year-old batsman is now just behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has 42.2 million Facebook followers.

The Indian skipper, said that fans have been supporting the team and it feels priceless. Currently, the Indian team is playing a series in the West Indies and won the second One Day international at Port of Spain. Kohli hit 87 runs whereas opener Ajinkya Rahane compiled a sublime century to anchor the Indian innings.

Kohli has left Bollywood stars like Salman Khan (35,123,804), Deepika Padukone (34,049,889), Priyanka Chopra (31,769,426) and even Amitabh Bachchan (27,129,029) behind when it comes to followers on Facebook. His girl friend actor Anushka has just 8,416,694 Facebook likes on her official profile.

He is even ahead of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who has 28,536,442 likes on Facebook.

The Indian batting mainstay currently has 16 million followers on Twitter and on Instagram the number is around 14 million. Indian cricket is witnessing a golden era under the able leadership of Kohli and fans would expect the mercurial batsman to take it to larger heights in the upcoming days.
