New Delhi:

Aged above 40 but still going like a warrior, not running after money but cementing his legacy as a legend. The classy batsman is not only the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy but is like an immovable object in the Vidarbha batting line up.

Yes, we are talking about Wasim Jaffer, who has just completed his unbeaten double-century and will eye for a triple ton when Vidarbha comes to bat on Day 3 of the ongoing Irani Trophy match against Rest of India.

Jaffer, who troubled the clueless RoI’s bowling line-up on Day 1, piled more misery on them as he slammed 285 runs off 425 balls. Hence becoming the oldest player to do so in the history of the series. He is now just 15 runs short of changing his double ton into a triple.

The veteran batsman holds some mind-boggling records in First-Class Cricket. Before this match against RoI, he has appeared in 314 First-Class matches where he has batted in 396 innings, scoring 17,824 at a phenomenal average of close to 50.

With this double ton, he touched the milestone of 18,000 runs. He now has 53 centuries and 81 fifties in his domestic career.

In a legendary career spanning over two decades, the 40-year old has scored 10,665 runs in Ranji Trophy history, which is a record. His 36 domestic tons in a year which is also a record.

But his test career was not as good as he would have liked to be. He has played 31 Tests and scored 1944 runs, which is a bit un-Jaffer when we look at his mountain of runs that he scored in FC Cricket. He has also scored only 10 runs in just two ODIs in which he represented India.

Jaffer has now played 12 Irani Cup games with over 1000 runs in his account, a tally which is more than the likes of Gundappa Vishwanath, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Sunil Gavaskar.

The legends of Wasim Jaffer is growing older but is without a doubt going stronger. The cricketer is expected to play more cricket in the coming time but will be a huge miss when he finally bids adieu to the beautiful game. Till then take a bow Wasim Jaffer! and keep entertaining us.
