Frank Lampard named new manager of Derby County FC

New Delhi:

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been announced as the new manager of second-division football club Derby on Thursday.

The English club has declared that the former box-to-box midfielder has signed a three-year contract.

"I know it won't be easy - managing a football team never is - but I'm really looking forward to the challenge ahead," said the former England international in his presentation as the new boss of Derby.

At his time with Chelsea from 2001-14, Lampard became the club's record goal scorer with 211 goals, having made 649 appearances and was central to the three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League in 2012.

The former West Ham United youth product finished his career with short stints at Manchester City and then at New York City FC in Major League Soccer (MLS) before hanging his boots last year.
