Stanislas Wawrinka on Friday defeated World Number One Andy Murray 6-7 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the men's singles semifinals to enter the French Open final. Wawrinka overcame a spirited challenge from Murray to seal the semis in a five-set marathon at Roland Garros.

Murray had beaten Japanese Kei Nishikori in the quarters to make it to the semis of the French Open. Meanwhile, Stanislas Wawrinka had got the better of Marin Cilic in his quarterfinal encounter. Murray had a 10-7 record against Wawrinka going into the semifinal encounter on Friday. It is notable that Murray had beaten Wawrinka in the same stage at the French Open last year.

Wawrinka now awaits the winner of the other semifinal between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem.
