Rafael Nadal defeats Dominic Thiem to win 5th Madrid Open title, equals Djokovic's 30 Masters titles

Spaniard Rafael Nadal continued his spectacular form on clay by defeating Austrian Dominic Theim in a tough title clash to win his 5th Madrid Open title.

Nadal has been in breathtaking form on his favourite surface this season and looks in top gear  to win his 10th French Open title at Roland Garros.

Nadal will be confirmed as the new world number four, replacing 18-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, when the new rankings come out on Monday.

The 30-year-old Nadal won his fifth Mutua Madrid Open title and his record-tying 30th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown, matching World No. 2 Novak Djokovic for the all-time lead.
