Wimbledon 2017 | Women's Singles Semis: V Williams to play Konta, Muguruza to face Rybarikova

Five-times champion Venus Williams shall be locking horns against British Johanna Konta in the women's singles semifinals at Wimbledon later on Friday. At 37, Williams is bidding to become the oldest Grand Slam champion in Wimbledon history.

Williams had beaten French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko to seal a berth in the semis while Johanna Konta overcame a stiff resistance from second seed Romanian Simona Halep to become the first British female player to make it to the last four at Wimbledon in the last 38 years.It was way back in 1979 when Virginia Wade clinched the Wimbledon title in front her home fans at the All England Club.

In the second semifinal, Garbine Muguruza shall be battling unseeded M. Rybáriková for a place in the finals. Muguruza had beaten Russia's  S. Kuznetsova in straight sets in her quarterfinal match. Meanwhile, her semis opponent M. Rybáriková stunned twenty-four seed Coco Vandeweghe to make it to her maiden semifinals.
