BSNL to offer 4G services in country from New Year, Kerala first state to experience LTE services

New Delhi:

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, shortly known as BSNL, is all set to start its 4G services in the country from January. Kerala will be the first state to experience the 4G LTE services.

Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director, told PTI, “We are going to start 4G from Kerala. That will be our first circle on 4G LTE.”

The second state to experience the 4G services will be Odisha. It will focus on the areas where 3G coverage is low, as per operator.

The company has 5 MHz spectrum in 2100 MHz band which it will offer 4G services. It is seeking 5 MHz more spectrum in the band to roll out the 4G services in other areas as well.

BSNL, which is currently offering 2G and 3G services in the country, has about 10 crore subscribers. The company also offer Wi-Fi services in 16,000 hotspots.

Currently, the 4G services are offered by Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea, which are engaged in a tight competition.

Meanwhile, the Central govt wants to merge MTNL and BSNL so that they could compete against the private telecom operators.

Presently, the telecom sector of the county is going through many changes with several mergers like Vodafone and Idea in the row.
