Chaitra Navratri 2018: India celebrates holy Hindu festival to appease beloved deity Durga

Chaitra Navratri is being celebrated to worship Goddess Durga and her nine divine avatars. During this period of nine days, people also govern the 8th planet in the solar system Rahu (Neptune) and are more prone to encounter a host of sickness and disease. On Sunday, a large number of devotees have gathered at several temples across the country to appease their beloved deity Gauri. This year Chaitra Navratri starts on March 18 and will culminate on March 26. The festival falls in the Hindu month of Chaitra, usually around March and April. The holy festival also marks the transition from Spring to Summer and is way more popular in the Northern part of India.
